What actually changed
This isn't a hot streak inflating an average. It's a structural step up — and the diagnostic points at one decision.
- He moved to the middle. Heeney opened the year as a medium forward, then spent the last thirteen games as a genuine midfielder. That role change is the engine of everything below.
- Elite ball control appeared from nowhere. His control contribution jumped to +1.19 in 2026, against roughly 0.00 across his entire prior career. He's now dictating territory, not just finishing it — by far the biggest single change in his profile.
- The floor lifted, not just the ceiling. His worst game of 2026 still scored 0.81 — above the league-average night. In every earlier season he'd dip into the negatives; this year he simply hasn't.
